Greenbelt Academy, located in Bor, Jonglei State, South Sudan is one of Education Bridge's efforts to promote education in South Sudan. The school will serve grade 9-12 students from Bor town and it neighboring counties. In addition to academic subjects, we will also be providing short courses in entrepreneurship and non-violent conflict resolution. Greenbelt Academy is currently under construction. Construction is expected to be done in November 2016 and the school will open for the first time in January 2017 with 200 students.

School Mission

Greenbelt Academy seeks to educate a generation of peacemakers and transformational leaders. Through facilitated ethnic interaction within our schools and our conflict transformation curriculum, we help create new stories of peace and challenge ethnic stereotyping.

School Values

  • Compassion: We treat ourselves and others with kindness, and serve with gratitude
  • Respect: We honor ourselves and others through words and actions, and appreciate diversity.
  • Excellence: We do not settle for less than our possible best in everything we do.
  • Responsibility: We take ownership of our behaviors as individuals and have the courage to think and act independently.

School Philosophy

We believe education is bridge to prosperity in South Sudan. Every child in South Sudan has a potential to become an agent of social development. However that is only possible if we have the right educational institutions to develop their minds and hearts for the work that awaits. Greenbelt Academy is committed to developing entreprenuerial citizens with skills and values for responsible citizenship.

We also believe that educational institutions play a paramount role in constructing truths and perceptions that shape communities for worse or better. In this light, Greenbelt Academy is committed to fostering peace in South Sudan. We do this by providing a safe space where students from different ethnicities in Jonglei State, South Sudan, can interact and learn to appreciate each others culture. The interactions we facilitate and the programs we provide help our students deconstruct tribal prejudices that for long time have fueled ethnic conflict in the state.
